Fairfield, IA - hawthorne direct, the direct response TV advertising agency, was recently recognized with the Award of Excellence from the Iowa Motion Picture Awards for “Behind the Seas” (produced for the U.S. Navy by hawthorne direct in association with Rapp Collins Worldwide). hawthorne direct was also named a finalist for both “Nikon’s Grand Adventures” (produced for Nikon U.S.A. by hawthorne direct) and “The Cyclone XT” (produced for Fantom Technologies Direct by hawthorne direct in association with Future Thunder Productions).

Behind the Seas” – Award of Excellence, Iowa Motion Picture Awards

The U.S. Navy action packed infomercial takes viewers behind the seas on a voyage to discover what life in the Navy is really like.
The infomercial answers real questions…What is day-to-day life like? What else is there to do besides military work? Is there any time to play? Real enlistees describe their workday, their time off, what they like and don’t like about the Navy…adding to this unique commercial campaign.
The target audience is predominately male at about 90%, ages 18 to 34, with an educational level of high school plus. The purpose is to generate interest in what the Navy can do for the enlistee. Four years in the Navy can provide income, college credits and invaluable life lessons.
The Iowa Motion Picture Awards are presented by the Iowa Motion Picture Association in recognition for outstanding creative and technical achievement in Iowa’s moving image production industry, in all its forms. There are two levels of recognition, including the Finalist acknowledgement and the Award of Excellence. There are two rounds of judging. In the preliminary round, members of Iowa’s production community screen all the entries. The entries are rated on how well they achieve their stated objectives, as well as their creative and technical elements relative to the category. Judging is on a point total basis. The top five point receivers move onto the final round. The final judging is held outside of Iowa, with the panels comprised of experienced professionals. Final judging rounds for the 2000 Showcase Iowa were held the first week of March in Minneapolis, MN.
The Iowa Motion Picture Awards winners were announced at the Showcase Iowa Awards ceremony on Saturday, April 1, at the Val Air Ballroom, West Des Moines, IA.
