This is a senior-level individual contributor role that is primarily focused on conducting cutting-edge research and development of new data science capabilities for Hawthorne.  These capabilities may take various forms, such as systems (e.g. new attribution methods), statistical / machine learning / mathematical models, and simulations.

This role will also be focused on creating extensive documentation of the results of the above R&D work, through both reports on research findings as well as detailed descriptions of developed functionality and logic (i.e. algorithms).

A secondary function of this role is to provide technical assistance to the data science team, as well as other, related teams, when needed.  This may also include providing technical support for new business development via such tasks as proposal preparation and prospect presentation.

Qualifications:   

  • Graduate degree in Physics, Statistics, Mathematics or other relevant degree or additional experience
  • 5 or more years experience in relevant analytical positions required.
  • Experience with SQL, R, Python, and/or Weka
  • Excellent written communication skills (especially in the area of technical writing / research reports)
  • Advertising agency experience preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Research and develop new data science capabilities for Hawthorne (e.g. attribution)
  • Produce written reports detailing research findings and exact functionalities of newly developed, as well as existing, systems (e.g. PureStat) (including specific logic of algorithms)
  • Create statistical and mathematical models using R, Python, and/or Weka

The senior media planner be the key component to our Strategy team to develop campaign strategies and integrated media plans that achieve client objectives. The Sr Planner can act with independence in planning while providing guidance to Account Supervisors and Buyers. They drive innovation at both the strategic and campaign level, to clients and teams within the agency, and cultivate key partnerships to deliver the best integrated media opportunities to the client across all linear TV and digital channels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as strategic navigator for collaborating teams by leading the thinking to inspire innovative, strategic media solutions to meet campaign KPIs and targeted audience awareness based on business and consumer insights
  • Planning for U.S. National Broadcast, Cable, Local Market, Multi-cultural and Canadian short form, spot media executions
  • Integration of digital and other new media channels (VOD, OTT)
  • Develop media plans, following approved strategy, that elicit strong consumer response, build brand awareness and extend reach and frequency
  • Analyze and provide research for client requests and make media plan recommendations
  • Evaluate value and relevance of media channels and share knowledge with others
  • Interpret consumer research – Simmons, Scarborough, Kantar, etc.
  • Collaborate with Business Intelligence/ Data Science, Programmatic Teams to identify consumer learning needs and drive consumer insight generation, analysis/ interpretation
  • Ensure the team delivers sound strategic media/communication recommendations based on a clear understanding of brand objectives
  • Develop media planning process improvements and best practices to ensure consistency, flexibility and efficiency resulting in solutions that meet or exceed client expectations
  • Support the development of presentations and client correspondence
  • Exemplify collaboration by building and maintaining productive relationships across all communications areas (investment teams, Brand, multi-functional teams, agency partners, media vendors – as appropriate) as well as manage the senior relationships

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • BA/BS required
  • Recommended experience: 7 – 10 years’ media buying, planning
  • Experience with GA, Direct Response and Hybrid campaigns
  • Experience negotiating media and understanding the value of media
  • Advance computer knowledge (Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience using comScore, Nielsen, Simmons, NPower to derive value-additive insights for clients
  • Strong writing, presentation and strategic and analytical thinking skills
  • Able to work independently and have excellent time management skills
  • Problem solver with the ability to develop creative solutions
  • Organized, and detail-oriented with strong attention to follow-through
  • Nimble and flexible to succeed in a fast-paced environment and handle ad hoc requests
  • Interest and familiarity through use of digital media

This person manages the strategic and media objectives of assigned clients, growing digital media agency revenues for each client, and meeting or exceeding agency profitability goals for each service delivered to clients.  They manage client needs and communication and maintain a highly responsive service orientation in all transactions and is knowledgeable in both the client’s business and the agency business. With the support of Hawthorne’s Business Intelligence and traditional Media teams, the Digital Account Director acts as lead digital media strategist on new media and marketing platforms that will enhance the response and or brand of the campaign, including research tools, brand awareness studies, campaign or creative fatigue, creative revisions and new creative opportunities.

Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s degree in: Advertising, Marketing, Public Relations, Social Science or Business Administration; an MBA or Master’s degree is a plus. 
  • Ten+ years of professional experience with an advertising agency, interactive agency or a large consumer products/services corporation, focusing on account management, integrated marketing programs develop for consumer products, and/or brand management.
  • Experience working on a variety of media projects spanning multiple industries and brand categories is ideal.
  • Firm grounding in marketing thought processes and best practices, and tested experience in development and execution of integrated marketing and creative strategies.  
  • Familiar with qualitative and quantitative research techniques. 
  • In-depth knowledge with all types of online and new media and with understanding of traditional media (radio, TV, outdoor, direct mail, print, etc.).
  • Experience in Digital Media strategies, planning and execution to meet Awareness and Customer Acquisition objectives across all channels.
  • Deep experience with Digital Media reporting and analysis including, but not limited to Google Analytics, Omniture and CRM software.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in the following platforms: Excel, Powerpoint, Tableau, DCM, TradeDesk and digital attribution.

Responsibilities:

The Digital Account Director ensures that the Agency is providing excellent integrated service to the Client in all key Digital areas: Creative, Media, Research and Account Management.

  • Build, plan and implement the overall digital marketing strategy
  • Manage the digital strategy and coordinate digital media strategies with integrated accounts
  • Stay up to date with the latest digital technology and best practices
  • Manage and oversee different digital marketing channels
  • Measure ROI and KPIs, across digital media channels and integrated campaigns
  • Track SEO and Google Analytics data an make complex analysi
  •  Manages Digital Client relationships and strategically helps direct integrated campaigns, performance and communication with other offline Account Directors
  • Provides strategic guidance and business leadership to grow scope of services and annual revenues for new and existing Clients.
  • Creates and executes direct or brand response campaigns designed to increase revenue across all digital mediums.
  • Maintains database of competitive tactics that drive unique differentiation and reinforce exclusive benefits.
  • Oversees the writing of Client contracts and scopes related to digital strategy and media, procures Client approvals on scope documents and manages projects within parameters of scope. 
  •  In coordination with Creatives and Account Supervisors, presents and effectively sells communications plans, concepts, media and digital marketing plans to Clients.
  • Presents new business growth opportunities to existing Clients and plays a leading role in their development.
  • Prepares periodic overviews of Client’s current activities, revenue forecasts, plus plans for future development of accounts.
  •  Gathers, organizes and analyzes research: consumer psychology and behavior, brand-sales history, competitive sales and customer information, consumer demographics, industry and competitive trends.
  • Reviews overall and specific digital campaign performance, identifies emerging market opportunities or business threats.
  • Recommends and facilitates focus group sessions or online surveys with target market.
  • Develops, manages, refines and owns the digital advertising strategy for Clients across multiple channels.
  •  With support of Hawthorne’s Business Intelligence and Data Science departments, Identifies and clearly outlines campaign data objectives, data requirements and learnings prior to campaign launch and throughout campaign with Account team and Client.
  • Reviews web attribution baseline response and provides directive for IS and Data Science to ensure proper response curves and attribution is being executed at campaign launch.
  • Communicates monthly with IS and Data Science teams to ensure web attribution models are effective and communicate any Client concerns or revisions needed with IS and Data Science teams. 
  • Participates in new business pitches and opportunities to bring new Clients aboard.
